An Interview with Mike Swan, The Club at Crested Butte, Golf, Tennis, Fitness, New Slopeside Facility
The Club at Crested Butte is a great amenity in Crested Butte. It is a place for the whole family offering golf, tennis, pool or fitness, fishing in the stocked lake and Grant Lake, and the new Slopeside facility. There are many Member events that bring everyone together that are fun and create lasting friendships.
Designed by world-renowned course architect, Robert Trent Jones II, this championship golf course is one of Colorado’s hidden gems. The course is known for its meticously maintained Championship-quality fairways and greens. Its five sets of tees assure a challenging round for golfers of all levels. This mountain course with elevated tee boxes provides a challenging experience and beautiful vista of the surrounding Elk Mountain Range. There is a full driving range and putting and chipping practice area.

Head Golf Professional. Mike Swan started his golf career at the prestigious Robert Trent Jones Golf Club, where he worked for several President’s Cup. After earning his bachelor’s degree from Virginia Tech, Mike moved west to Crested Butte to pursue a dream of working in the golf industry and was able to receive full certifications from the PGA.
Membership – at its inception and up until about 6 years ago it was required to purchase real estate in the Skyland Subdivision in order to become a member of the Club – this is no longer the case. There are many members who own property in the Crested Butte Real Estate market – but outside of Skyland. Memberships can include Golf, Tennis, or Fitness & Swimming and these rates are not published as requested by the Club – see membership contact info below.
The Club has recently announced a new winter facility – the SlopeSide remodel will allow us to offer new extensive amenities to Members: 120 oversize lockers, private parking directly behind facility, expanded lounge area, SlopeSide patio and fire pit. A concierge will be on site daily to service your needs: discount lift tickets, discount ski rentals, lodging reservations, ski instructor consultation, activity recommendations, social and dining reservations.
The Club will be offering Members a full social calendar throughout the year: cat skiing, torchlight parade viewings, snow shoe tours, snowmobiling, football parties, mountain biking, hiking and much more. SlopeSide will be a significant enhancement to your Golf and Sport Membership. You now have an official mountain club where your friends and family can come together and enjoy new activities provided by the Club. Construction began July 15, 2013, please join in the fun and get ready for the Grand Opening in November!
Fishing – The Club stocked their private lake with 300 Rainbow trout, ranging from 12 to 16 inches! There are complimentary casting clinics provided by Crested Butte Angler. Call the Golf Shop to sign up at 970.349.8603. Crested Butte Angler is available daily to provide both casting instruction and guide service to Members.
Tennis – There are clinics and drills for all skill levels including Junior programs. Private or group tennis instruction is available from Jaylen Musselman, Head Tennis Professional. Jaylen is a USPTA Certified Level 3 Professional.
Fitness – There is an indoor pool and full fitness area with weights, cardio machines, and a fitness room for classes. Classes cover all fitness levels and include Yoga, Pilates, Aqua, Spinning, Core Burn… Up to date techniques and practices provided by highly certified instructors.
The Brush Creek Grill is now open for lunch during the summer season 7 days a week from 11:30am-3:30pm, and Grill night Thursday and Friday evening. Enjoy one of a kind views from the patio and a delicious meal!
