2014 Pro Cycling Challenge Crested Butte Stage 2 in 2014
If you have not seen the Pro Cycling Challenge it is a must. This Colorado bike race is in it’s fourth year, and the race is coming back to Crested Butte/Mt. Crested Butte for the third time on Tuesday August 19, 2014. Many have worked hard to make this the 3rd finish here in Crested Butte and the race organizers like the vibe of CB, and they have said Crested Butte “has one of the prettiest backdrops on the planet for any spectacle, let alone a professional bike race”.
3:15pm – Estimated Spring through Historic Downtown Crested Butte 3:25pm – Estimated Finish Time in Mt. Crested Butte For race updates right to your smart phone, Text CBPRO to 411247 From Aspen to Crested Butte – 105 Miles and arriving into Crested Butte via Kebler Pass Road (see downtown Crested Butte race course Map below). “Stage 2 opens fast by ripping down the Roaring Fork Valley through the sprint cities of Basalt and Carbondale before tackling the 8,700 ft. McClure Pass. A short descent brings the race to Gunnison County Road 12 (Kebler Pass), which is a 20-mile rollercoaster that constantly changes from pavement to dirt and back again, while topping out at 9,900 ft. A technical descent into Crested Butte brings the race back to familiar terrain. As in 2011 and 2012, the race will finish with a sprint through downtown Crested Butte on the town’s “main drag” called Elk Avenue and the steep grueling finish climb that tops out at a 13% grade up to Mt. Crested Butte. The public is encouraged to park at the Community School parking lot – and there is free bus service to the race and Festival. But don’t forget the downtown activities Tuesday AM. Race organizers ask to please keep dogs at home for this event (that will be hard because there are more dogs in CB than people), and keep kids and wild ones contained and out of the way or the racers. MONDAY NIGHT BLOCK PARTY: Monday August 18th Elk Avenue between 2nd and 3rd St. From 4 p.m. to approximately 9 p.m. 5:30 p.m. The Alpenglow Encore Concert begins with Brothers Comatose. Kid-friendly, come have fun – kids strider racing at 5:15 on the East end of the block, just before the concert. Bring the lawn chair (street chair) and your good spirits to celebrate the coming USA Pro Challenge racing and the last of the Alpenglow concerts. Tuesday Aug. 19th Race Day Schedule:
