The Annual Alley Loop Nordic Marathon Saturday Feb 2, 2013 in Crested Butte, CO is not to be Missed

The Alley Loop Nordic Marathon that is run by the Crested Butte Nordic Center and as of last year is an official American Birkebeiner race and an important component of the American Ski Marathon Series. The annual marathon is in fact one of Crested Butte’s most significant costume parties and greatest Nordic celebration of the year.
The Alley Loop is a ski race for some, and a fun crazy costume party event for others. With various distances – from a kids 1.5K or 3K course, 5K, 10K, 21K or 42K there is a distance for everyone. All the courses with different start times begin and finish in downtown Crested Butte. The race start and finish line are located in historic downtown Crested Butte at Elk Avenue and Second. The beginning of the course goes through town – down the snow alleys, behind restaurants and stores, over various footbridges and past numerous well wishers and residences. The courses that measure more than 5k head out of town to the flawlessly groomed Nordic trails on the pristine outskirts of Crested Butte. Racers finish to the cheers of on-lookers and are welcomed back with a hot bowl of soup and refreshment at the end of the race. Now the event features a Saturday Taste of the Alley, a Friday night pub-ski crawl, and a Belgium Beer Garden, as well as a special awards ceremony with fabulous prizes and a raffle.

What is more, Friday Night pub-ski crawl is a distinct pub crawl that now enables participants to ski between all the great bars that participate at the marathon. Every participant who manages to complete the Alley Loop and the pub-ski crawl will automatically enter into a special raffle.

To register on-line for the Alley Loop Nordic Marathon you might want to hurry up as the fees go up after January 1st and registrations will end on January 31st. Likewise, on the 1st of February, you can register in person at the Chamber, from 3 to 7, and there will be no registration day at the Nordic Center. Bib Pick-up for ON-LINE registrants is Friday, February 1st from 3-7 pm, at the Crested Butte Visitor’s Center (Chamber) and Saturday morning from 7-9 am at Montanya Rum 130 Elk Ave. CHIP PICK-UP: 7-9am race day at Montanya Rum 130 Elk Ave.
