Are You Ready To Sell Your Crested Butte Home

Are You Ready To Sell Your Crested Butte Home

Lots of people talk about or think about selling their home but actually doing it is something else. Whether it’s your first or fifth time selling a house, it is still a big deal and lots of time and effort goes into it! But how can you tell if you are ready to sell your home in the Crested Butte area? I have found that it’s important to pinpoint your motivation for selling and see if you’re emotionally ready. Before you can ask questions like how do I sell my home, you need to ask yourself: “Why do we want to sell our Crested Butte Home?”

Are You Really Ready To Sell Your Crested Butte Home?

Are you really ready to sell your Crested Butte home? And just as important – Is your home ready to sell? This is a valid question when it comes to preparing yourself and your Crested Butte home to sell .

If you aren’t motivated to sell your home, and your home is not ready – then you will only go through the motions. This can lead to frustrations and your home not selling because you haven’t properly prepared your home to sell. This could mean your home sits on the market for a long time, and not selling the home for the highest market price possible .

Do you want to to upgrade or downsize? Are you kids and grandkids not visiting as frequently?  Are you needing to sell soon because of personal, health or financial reasons? When you start looking for a real estate agent it’s very helpful to have your motivations pinned down. This will allow your agent to serve you better!

Land – My wife and I owned two parcels that we were going to build our dream home on, and ended up selling both. I have a number of clients who are super happy with their newly constructed homes, and others who have decided that given the long lead times and rising construction costs to build – they are torn whether to build or buy?

Checklist of Questions to Ask Yourself

If you are on the fence, here is a checklist that may help you (and your spouse) determine if you should be selling your Crested Butte home:

  • Have not been using your home as much as in years past?
  • Have not invited someone to be a guest in your home for over a year?
  • Kids and grandkids have not visited for frequently?
  • Old friends have moved away?
  • A day of adventure is now going out to lunch and/or dinner?
  • Cannot name five people in Crested Butte you would call to have dinner or go for a cup of coffee?
  • Your age or health is a concern in terms of being able to do the things you used to do?
  • Scared to ski because you fear if you fall you will get injured?
  • Scared that while walking or getting out of the car you may slip on the ice in the winter and get injured?
  • The altitude bothers you and you cannot sleep at night or have trouble breathing?
  • Where you once saw winter beauty and adventure, now you see cold and danger?

If you answered “Yes” to the majority of the items above, you are probably ready to start down the path of selling your Crested Butte home. It can be hard to come to this realization, but it is better to know for sure.

Why Are You Considering Selling?

People sell their homes for all kinds of reasons! But it’s good for you to know exactly why you are planning on selling your home. This will help you understand your motivations and that will have a huge impact on if you’re ready to sell your home or not. A motivated seller will do everything possible to sell their home, but an unmotivated seller will drag their feet. Take your time and figure out what kind of seller you are and the reasons you are wanting or needing to sell.

Or are you wanting to sell or downsize due to family no longer coming to visit and spend time at your second home in Crested Butte? In the last couple of years have you not been to this property enough to make sense of you still owning it? Or are you actually ready to sell because you’ve owned a smaller place for a few years and are looking to buy something bigger?

All of these are very valid reasons! Think about what your long-term goals are and what your timeline is. This will help you decide if you are ready to sell your home in Crested Butte. Your motivations are also very helpful for your real estate agent as they create a plan for the sale of your home.

Are You Emotionally Prepared To Sell Your Crested Butte Home

Have you ever thought about if you are emotionally ready to sell your home? People want to consider the sale of a home as a straightforward transaction but it’s often a complicated and emotional process. The decision to leave can be tough! And not just for you, but for the family and friends that have been coming to you in Crested Butte as well. Leaving a home where you shared so many memories with family and friends is hard. But you can be comforted by the memories of all the winters you spent skiing on the slopes in Crested Butte. Or memories of the summer days, you spent out hiking or biking all the beautiful trails. Selling a home is often a more emotional process that people expect, so make sure you are ready for that!

Is Your Home Ready To Sell?

Have you have put off a major project or remodel because you don’t want to spend the time, effort, or money? I think you will find that the market, and buyers are not eager to buy into the uncertainty of doing this work. And if they do – they will want to be rewarded in the reduction in price to buy your home.  At a minimum you should get estimates for the projects that are needed.

Have you had an Inspection?  You should hire an inspector to understand the punch list of the items that would be revealed to a Buyer. Then fix and replace the stuff that needs it… the goal is to make your home ready to sell.
