Buying and Furnishing Your Crested Butte Home

Buying and Furnishing Your Crested Butte Home

Crested Butte Interior DesignCost of Furniture and Furnishings – Will you be using an interior designer? You should, but let’s assume you are gifted and go at it alone. Go to the mountain furniture store in Gunnison, Montrose, Denver or any mountain town or even in your big city and get a quote for mid-range new furniture and furnishings, and see what it will cost to put framed artwork on the walls, install window treatments, add cute decorations throughout, a full turnkey kitchen package (small appliances, wine glasses, silverware, pots and pans…), and to furnish a 3,500 square foot house with mountain furniture, pillows, linens, duvet covers, rugs, etc. $100,0000 is probably a conservative number.

Buying and Furnishing Your Crested Butte HomeI work with many affluent clients who come to realize that their second home in Crested Butte will be used differently than their home back in the city because they will likely be hosting family, friends and clients in both the Winter and Summer.  Luxury homes in the Crested Butte area require specific design input to ensure that they will look good and function well.  First it is important to select the home that will accommodate you, your family, your pets, and your visitors. The interior design approach for a ski-in / ski-out home on Mt. Crested Butte may be different than a home located on the golf course in the Skyland area or a home in historic downtown Crested Butte that may have a smaller floorplan.  The bedrooms and common areas should work for the size and type of groups that will be visiting and/or staying in your home.

McCormick Ranch Crested Butte COInterior designers create comfortable mountain home living environments. The interior of the home will reflect your personal tastes and preferences, and allow for your different individual and family needs.  If the home is finished, your discussion and decisions revolve around furniture, furnishings, rugs, materials, colors, paint, lighting, and layout.  If you are building a home or doing remodel work in kitchen, bathrooms, and other living spaces – then additional decisions may also include appliances, fixtures, windows, window treatments, doors, hardwood floors, tile, stone, carpet, counter tops, and cabinets.New Listing 7 Peakview Drive Mt. It is recommended before contacting an interior designer, to review your expectations and determine your needs. What do you envision your completed Crested Butte mountain home will look like? How will it function with just a few people, or a big group?  What is your time frame?  Have you come up with a ballpark budget?  What activities will you be doing from your home? In the winter some of those activities include alpine and Nordic skiing, sledding, or snowshoeing, and in the summer you and your guests may be be hiking, mountain biking, or fly fishing… These activities require a place to store skis, fly rods, jackets, hats, shoes, boots, and other gear.  The garage area, rear entryway, laundry room, or dedicated mudroom are all options.

Other important spaces are closets and common areas where you can add some additional hooks and shelves?  (You can never have enough hooks and spaces for “stuff”).  I often have clients who take photos as we are looking at Crested Butte real estate – as they walk through homes for sale and they see something they like, they take a photo.  A clipping from a magazine, or a photo can help to capture a specific “look and feel” for your future home.  The better job you do in describing your interior design needs and wants, the happier you will be because your interior designer will be better able to meet your expectations.
