Even more rare is a property that offers a riverfront setting where you can see and hear the water, and see rising trout from the home. Some developments may offer a number of miles of private fly fishing for the homeowners in the shared ranch or development. If you are considering buying your Crested Butte home with fishing access there are some things to consider.

Winter Time Access

Many of these types of developments can be farther out away from town and are a great spot for a summer home. But these locations may not be as desirable in the winter if there is a longer drive to and from town or the ski area. Be aware as well that some remote properties may have great access in the summer, but there may be no snowplowing of roads in the winter and access is “seasonal”. This means getting your remote road and long driveway plowed and this can be very expensive. It’s good to keep this in mind when buying your Crested Butte home with fishing access.   • Does it include both sides of the river?
  • What species of trout?
  • What is the length of the fishing season?
  • Is it a tail water section of live water below a dam? If not, winter and spring runoff may likely reduce the fishable months to March through May, and July through October.
  • Will you want to fish it all the time?
  • Can you bring guests, and can guests fish when you are not there?
  • Are there streams or ponds for the young and old?

The Meridian Lake subdivision offers private fishing in Meridian Lake which is fantastic, and it is also near Long Lake which offers great fishing as well. These subdivisions are both close to downtown Crested Butte and can easily access the ski area of Mt Crested Butte.

However, more secluded private fishing access and riverfront homes are also available around Crested Butte. Reserve on the East River is a development with 2 miles of fly-fishing access for all homeowners. 8 homesites private riverfront access and many homes also have ponds. Wilder on the Taylor is a similar development which offers 12 riverfront homesites with fishing along 2 miles of the Taylor River.
