Center for the Arts Crested Butte New Building Video Tour
The brand new Center for the Arts building is almost finished and I got the fantastic opportunity to go check it out with Jenny Birnie, the executive director at the Crested Butte Center for the Arts. Soft Opening Center for the Arts Crested Butte New Building
The Center for the Arts new building is opening on July 1st. It’s going to be a soft opening so don’t expect to be walking into a clean shiny building. They are still going to be under construction. But most of the components will hopefully be in place.
The opening day has several events including a parade down Elk Avenue at 3:30pm and then the ribbon cutting and opening will be here at four o’clock. The Center for the Arts welcome the entire community. Come and participate! You can tour the building and then you just roll on over to Alpenglow.
What’s Inside the Center for the Arts Crested Butte New Building?
If you want to get a sneak peek into what the inside of the Center for the Arts new building looks like you can check out the video tour. I got the chance to see the aerial dance performance studio which is sound separated so it is possible to have multiple events going on at one time.
The new visual arts gallery is another important feature of the new building as they really wanted a prestigious art gallery. And this gallery is ADA accessible which the gallery in the existing Center for the Arts was not.
There is also an outdoor balcony space which is located next to the community room. This space is designed to be a gathering place as well as a location for special events! It is right next to the softball fields and a sculpture garden is planned nearby.
But possibly the most amazing thing is the new, ginormous theatre which will be used for many performances. The stage is twice as large as in the previous Center for the Arts building and is on a hydraulics system. This means the stage can be configured in a variety of ways which makes it a very flexible space. An acoustician and theatre consultant worked with the Center for the Arts on this project and as a result the acoustics in this theatre are outstanding.
Donate to the Crested Butte Center for the Arts!
This new Center for the Arts building is an absolute asset to the Crested Butte community. $18 million was raised to fund the the first phase of building. However, an additional $2 million is needed for everything inside the building. This includes everything from theatre equipment and lights to furniture and fixtures for the galleries. If you would be interested in donating you can check out the Crested Butte Center for the Arts website for more information.
