COVID and SAFETY Motivates Buyers
We are seeing signs that COVID and SAFETY Motivates Buyers. Have the COVID Lockdown and recent riots affected your perspective of WHERE you want to live? You are not alone – there are reports of a sudden surge in buyers considering a move from big urban city and metro areas to rural and resort towns like Crested Butte, Colorado.
COVID = Work Remote
I worked in corporate America for over 20 years and there was a badge of honor for arriving early to the office and leaving late. Climbing the corporate ladder was certainly about performance, but also putting in the time… Because of COVID there is a change in culture and working remotely has become the required norm. Many people who have the opportunity to work remote realize the pleasure of not having to slog to the office every day. Companies report that productivity has not suffered.
High-level executives and business owners who make the rules, are wondering how they could work remotely more often in the future. What if the new normal allows them to spend 2-3 weeks at a time away from the office but still plugged-in? And this has some considering the options… Tech company Twitter just announced its workers can work remotely indefinitely – other companies are following suit…
Work At Home = Remote = Anywhere!
The norm was to go to the office to work. The office is where the people were – co-workers. The office is where the computers and files and connection to the network were. The office requires a commute in traffic everyday (twice). Because of COVID everyone was forced to “work remote”. Most Worked from Home. Many are now wondering: “If I don’t have to work at the office – and I can work Anywhere – Why not work from my home in…Crested Butte!” (A + B = C)
Safety, Cost and Quality
The recent protests that turned into rioting, looting and crime have pushed some to wonder how safe they are, and are reconsidering their urban home. Coupled with the rising impact of the urban homeless population, growing urban tent cities, high cost of living, high taxes – many question the quality of life in the urban / metro situation…
Zoom, Go To Meeting, Microsoft Teams, Skype, Facetime…
“We are not in Kansas anymore”, and You don’t have to physically be in Kansas anymore to be in a meeting. That nifty iPhone or Android device or laptop is all you need to stay connected and be part of the meeting.
Office Space is Expensive
Will we see a change in the landscape of big urban and suburban office buildings, and expensive office space? I bet many VPs of HR and CFOs are getting together to look at how they can reconfigure their office use, and reduce expenses.
A Second Home in Crested Butte?
What was previously not an option – now becomes a great opportunity. Previously, a second home did not make sense if they only get to spend 2-3 weeks per year in their home. What if they could spend 2 – 3 weeks a month at their second-home in a resort market?
What if that second home was in Crested Butte?
Imagine what it would be like to be in Crested Butte for a month or more during the winter and get to ski all the great powder days! To be in Crested Butte as the Wildflowers start to pop, the trout rise for dry flies, the aspen leaves start to change… to get to experience all the seasons with family and friends.
Many families enjoy summering in Crested Butte – the kids get to participate in local sports and activities, and make new friends. The breadwinner may have to travel a few times throughout the summer, but comes home to relax in the mountains.
Move to Crested Butte Full Time?
My wife Francene and I were second homeowners for ten years before we decided to move to Crested Butte. We thought we would wait until our kids graduated from high school, and instead we moved to CB when they were 7th, 8th and 10th grades. It has been over 11 years now and a great decision. We don’t miss the hustle/bustle and traffic in Dallas, and love the mountain lifestyle.
