What else is there to do in Crested Butte?  Crested Butte Colorado is a special place.  Located at the end of the valley in Gunnison County.  A former coal mining town now a Historic resort town that is know for its charm, its warm community and festive attitude.   Crested Butte is a destination for skiing, mountain biking, hiking, fishing, golf and a variety of other outdoor activities.   It is a welcoming  community made up of transplanted locals and second home owners, with a permanent population in town of about 1,500.  Many people consider Crested Butte as “the last great Colorado ski town”.  It is located at the North end of the Gunnison valley and  includes both the towns of Crested Butte and Mt. Crested Butte.  One added benefit of having the Crested Butte Film Festival at the end of September is this is the peak of the Fall colors and the beautiful Crested Butte landscape is awash golden yellows and oranges with the changes in the aspen leaves. For additional info about the Crested Butte Film Festival, including a full schedule of the events and films being shown and show times visit the Crested Butte Film Festival website. Where to stay in Crested Butte – If you decide to come to Crested Butte to enjoy the film festival – there are many lodging options for the film festival with small boutique hotels in downtown Crested Butte and larger hotels at the base area 3 miles up the road (or via the free Mountain Express Shuttle) to the base area on Mt. Crested Butte.  Mt. Crested Butte is the home of the Crested Butte Mountain Resort (CBMR) and a local population of about 800 residents. This population swells in the winter with many seasonal residents, and visitors who come to experience the awesome lift served skiing that is Mt Crested Butte. People often ask me “what makes Crested Butte special?”  It is hard to put into words, but the Crested Butte Film Festival is part of the charm of Crested Butte for visitors, locals and second homeowners. There are plenty of luxury homes and high-end ski-in / ski-out condos at the base area, but unlike some of the other ski resort towns in Colorado that have their glitsy roots in gold and silver mining – Crested Butte was as a coal mining town. In many ways the character and attitude of the early ranchers and miners has transcended time. In Crested Butte the outdoor recreational opportunities are endless, the scenery is awesome, and the people are warm, friendly and real. Come visit – sit for a while, watch a film, relax and enjoy.
