Crested Butte is a ski resort located in beautiful Mt. Crested Butte, CO. With a reputation for extreme and diverse terrain, Crested Butte Mountain Resort is known as the birthplace of freeskiing. The resort is famous as an adventure ski destination with an abundance of green and blue groomed trails as well as more advanced trails.
About Crested Butte Mountain Resort
The resort opened in 1960 and struggled in its first ten years of operation. The first top-to-bottom gondola was constructed in 1963, the second resort in Colorado to do so (after Vail in 1962). Today there are a total of 15 lifts, featuring:
- 4 high speed detachable quads
- 2 fixed grip quads
- 2 triple chairs
- 3 double chairs
- 2 surface lifts
- 2 magic carpets
The lifts are capable of handling over 20,000 riders per hour. Lifts are open from 9am to 4pm with the exception of the East River Lift and the High Lift which close at 3:30pm and the North Face Lift which closes at 3pm.
The resort covers an area of 1,547 acres with plenty of space for skiers and snowboarders of all abilities. There are 121 trails, with 27 percent for beginners, 57 percent for intermediate and 16 percent for advanced skiers and snowboarders. The longest run is 2.6 miles. Average snowfall is 300 inches per year.
Tickets and passes are available online and in person. Save on the price of lift tickets if purchasing at least five days in advance online, and save even more when purchasing a lodging and lift ticket package. Season passes and Mountain Cards are also available for those who like to enjoy the mountain more than a few times per season.
