Impact of COVID-19

It’s unsurprising that the true number of transactions is down this winter because of the global pandemic going on. This has impacted the number of visitors coming to Crested Butte, especially during spring break which is usually a very busy time in the real estate market. There was also a period when real estate agents weren’t allowed to access homes, but this has now been allowed again. We are also expecting lodging to open up soon which would mean that visitors can return to Crested Butte starting May 27th.

Several clients have asked me about that and shown interest in coming back so I am hopeful that this will continue to grow. I think there are also lots of people who are still waiting to see what happens as well. I can’t tell the future so I cannot predict exactly what will happen this summer but I do believe that second home owners and other visitors will return to Crested Butte. And I believe that some of these people will be looking at real estate and so we will see some revival in the real estate market.

New Listings in Crested Butte

There are new listings coming on the market in the last two weeks. There’s been some homes listed in the higher end of the luxury range, even up to $3 million so I do foresee that the real estate market will continue to open up. It’s a good time to list your home right now if that’s something that you were considering. With spring starting and trees beginning to turn green and bloom, now is a fantastic time to get photography done and prepare your home for the summer season.

Visitors coming from the souther states likes Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Arkansas and Arizona will continue to come out to Crested Butte to escape the heat. They come to enjoy the mountains and hiking, mountain biking, fly fishing and golf. I definitely think that if you have a home that you are looking to sell, the summer is a great time to bring those kinds of buyers in and show them what they could be getting.

And now that more and more people are starting to realize that they can work from home very comfortably instead of going to an office for 10 hours a day, people will be even more interested in buying a home here in Crested Butte. I think there’s going to be a shift in the way people work and they will leave metropolitan areas to move to Crested Butte and work remotely! All of these things combined mean that I am hopeful that we’ll see activity and transactions go up in the Crested Butte Real Estate Market this summer.
