Gunnison, Crested Butte will be featuring several fishing events this coming May of 2013. With the hundreds of miles of scenic waterways, thousands of new fishes released every year from the state’s Roaring Judy Fish Hatchery, what more can people ask for? The county holds the state records for the brown, rainbow, lake trout and the kokanee salmon. Fishing in the waters of Gunnison is surely interesting. Some of the many exceptional habitats of the kokanee salmon, northern pike, and other trout are the Blue Mesa Lake, Taylor Reservoir, East and Taylor Rivers. All these provide easy access to anglers. Moreover, there are also many fishing outfitters and shops all over Gunnison, which offer fishing packages and the like.
The Annual Kiwanis Blue Mesa Fishing Tournament
The Blue Mesa Lake Fishing Tournament this year will be on May 4 and 5. It offers 80 different teams the chance to succeed on the early season. Two of these teams will start at the Elk Creek Marina. Take note that all of the fish species taken from the Blue Mesa Lake are at least 12 inches long. Four fishes can be submitted for competition per day. The entry or admission fee is $125 per team, and that is definitely cheap and somehow does not justify all the fun you will have during the said competition. The event is sponsored by the Gunnison Kiwanis Clulb.

Weekend Warrior Fishing Tournament
If you can’t make it to the first event, don’t worry because there are a number of other events that you can join, just like the Weekend Warrior Outdoors and Gunnison Chamber Fishing Tournament. This event will be on May 18 and 19, 2013. Still, a total of 80 spots will be available for teams of two, or perhaps teams of three including a younger member under the age of 16. Like the first event, four fishes can be submitted for competition per day. The cost is only $120 per team, and that is less than $5 compared to the other earlier event. All proceeds will be benefitting the Gunnison Country Chamber of Commerce.
