If you are looking for an adventure in Crested Butte you might consider the Fun Crested Butte Magic Meadow Yurt Dinner!
The Crested Butte Nordic Center operates the Magic Meadows Yurt during the Winter accessible via the groomed Nordic trails from the parking lot on Peanut Lake Road just North of historical downtown Crested Butte. The Yurt is located on Land Trust owned land and the Nordic Center offers seated catered dinners for up to 42 people. You have the option to put on your Nordic skis or snowshoes and walk out to the Yurt (approximately 1 mile) following the lit tiki torches that mark the route.
I recently got the opportunity to enjoy this great amenity in Crested Butte. This is a very fun experience and certainly a unique adventure and fine dining combination. There are “guides” who meet you at the Nordic Center to get you set-up with Nordic ski gear, or bring your own to the trail head where they will provide assistance and directions.
The trek out to the Yurt takes about 20 minutes or so, and is a nice leisurely flat ski or walk in snowshoes.
Once at the Yurt, the guides become servers and offer beverages including beer and wine. Everyone gathered on the deck to socialize and take in the beauty of the setting sun and the illumination of the tips of the peaks.
Inside the Yurt there is a wood burning stove and tables set for fine dining. The meal is a gourmet full course dinner and the chef announced the menu and the details of each course. There was also a great musician playing the guitar and singing ballads during our dining experience.
After the meal and socializing everyone heads out and either skis or walks back – again following the tiki torches. We were fortunate to have a clear night and beautiful stars. Most bring a headlamp to illuminate the way. If it is a full moon is extra special.
Magic Meadows Yurt is also available for private rental which includes snowmobile support, setup, and cleanup. As a member of the Crested Butte Rotary Club we rent the Yurt every year for a couples pot luck event and invite prospective new members – and this is a very nice option as well.
You can make your reservations either on-line at the Nordic Center’s website or stopping in to the Nordic Center and getting on-line there to sign-up. The Cost for the evening is:
Adults – $125
Children – $75
One time CB Nordic passholder discounted dinner – $90
Equipment, passes, guides, food, libations, live music, and gratuity are all included.
On your next visit to Crested Butte consider the Fun Crested Butte Magic Meadow Yurt Dinner – you and your friends will enjoy it!
People often ask me “what makes Crested Butte special?” It is hard to put into words, but the I think the Fun Crested Butte Magic Meadow Yurt Dinner is one more cool experience that makes Crested Butte a special place to enjoy with family, friends, and clients. With endless open space and recreational opportunities your adventures in Crested Butte are limitless.
There are plenty of luxury homes and high-end ski-in / ski-out condos at the base area, but unlike some of the other ski resort towns in Colorado that have their glitsy roots in gold and silver mining – Crested Butte was as a coal mining town. In many ways the character and attitude of the early ranchers and miners has transcended time. In Crested Butte the skiing is great, the scenery is awesome, the recreational activities in the Gunnison Valley are endless, and the people are warm, friendly and real. Come to Crested Butte, ski, hike, drive a car on the ice, ride a fat bike, ski out to the Magic Meadows Yurt and relax with friends and enjoy striking up a conversation with some new friends.
