Fun Things for Kids to do in Crested Butte, The Shopping and Eating Guide: Guest Blog by Lindsay Kopf
Shopping in Crested Butte…
Favor the Kind
If you are going for a trendy somewhat hipster look, Favor the Kind is the place to go. They have the cutest jewelry/accessories and cutest clothes more for daytime wear, and carry a lot of Free People clothing. They also have decorations for your room or house and cute little gifts items. A bit pricey, but definitely a cute place to check out. When walking down Elk Avenue, Favor the Kind is hard to miss, right at the beginning of Elk Avenue in a little brown shack with a big brown sign out front. You can go to the Favor the Kind website here or follow them on Instagram here
Retail Therapy
If you are looking for a trendy but more classic look, Retail Therapy in Crested Butte is the place to go. They have a lot of clothing options for a much more reasonable price and staple items of clothing. The clothing at Retail therapy is definitely styled for both daytime and going out at night. The clothing could be worn by age groups starting from middle school to young adults and rockin’ moms.
Lavish
Lavish has very cute jewelry and a great selection of purses, along with gift ideas, and cute necessity accessories. They have a large selection of Vera Bradley as well in a variety of purses, wallets, and accessories such as pens, iPad cases, notebooks and planners. Go here with your mom and pick out a fun accessory!
Food in Crested Butte…
Teocalli Tamale
Teocalli Tamale or as the locals call it “teo” is the place to go, it is the local favorite and great food! The Crested Butte version of Chipotle, it is fast and is both sit down and to go. They also have a patio in the summer that is perfect to sit at while eating on a nice day.Teocalli Tamale is located in the middle of Elk Avenue in a small red building just down the street from The Company Store building (Secret Stash). If you make it into Teo I suggest the Thai Burrito, or the Double Decker which is hard shell tacos wrapped in soft tacos and you can choose the glue in-between the two of either sour cream or guacamole. If you don’t go to Teo you’re doing it wrong.
Pitas in Paradise
Pitas in Paradise has a variety of greek food and isn’t pricey for how much food you get. The seasoned curly fries are amazing and The Gyro is a town favorite. If its hot out I also always go there for a chai shake, it hits the spot every time. They also have a soup bar and I’m a huge fan of soup so pitas is one of my favorites. Pitas also has some of the best outdoor seating and a prime location right in the middle of 3rd and Elk Avenue! Click here to checkout their website!
The Secret Stash
It doesn’t get more local than The Secret Stash. As restaurants come and go in the tiny town of Crested Butte, this pizza place has been around as long as I can remember and is still a local favorite and tourism must-do. This fun and spunky pizza place has a variety of amazing pizza with any kind of pizza you could think of on their menu. Along with this, they have some of the best wings in town! This pizza place is located in The Company Store right at the crossroads of 3rd Street and Elk Avenue. If you make it into the Stash you have to try their crack-fries, which are french fries loaded with truffle oil and cracked black pepper, also don’t bother ordering ketchup because the fries come with a secret stash sauce that is to die for. Order pizza from the Booty Call, Asher Pie or my favorites the Hamptons or the Fig pizza. The stash has a great happy hour as well, and you can order online or delivery. The Ginger Cafe
The Ginger Cafe is by far one of my favorite restaurants in Crested Butte because of their amazing and unique cuisine. The Ginger is a must-go every time I come home to Crested Butte and find myself craving their dishes when I am away for more than a week. An authentic Indian and Thia cuisine, the menu ranges from a quality pad thai to refreshing soups, spring rolls and cocktails. For lunch I suggest sitting outside on their great patio on a summer day and ordering their mango margarita and salmon avocado spring-rolls, both are to die for. The pad thai is a favorite, but they also have an amazing coconut milk and lemongrass soup called “tom ka gai” as well as many vegetable options, making it a great spot for vegetarians and vegans. Click here for their website! (pictured below is the tom kai gai soup, springrolls and a Ginger Martini, and then the pad thai all from the Ginger Cafe)
MoMo’s
MoMo’s used to be located right next to Third Bowl but it has now moved into the Red Room, downstairs in Secret Stash. The local guy making these Tibetan dishes is the happiest guy, and native to the origin of these meals so I’m telling you, the Potstickers are the real deal. He gives you a huge amount of food for less than $6 so it’s definitely worth your time to check out.
Ice Cream: 3rd Bowl & Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory
Third Bowl is the locally made ice cream shop located at the end of Elk Avenue. This ice cream place is new to Crested Butte as having only been around for roughly 4 years now. Third Bowl gives a nice twist to their flavors providing selections will make your taste buds pop! Some of my favorites are the lavender honey and the sorbets are to die for. Always switching up their menu, third bowl always keeps you on your toes. They have also recently starting making donuts as well which I have not had a chance to try myself but I have heard all good things about. Go in and get yourself a scoop of ice cream at Third Bowl!
The Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory is another great ice cream place in Crested Butte right off of 3rd and Elk Avenue across from the Company Store and impossible to miss. If you are a fan of chocolate this is the place for you. They have everything ranging from fresh chocolate fudge to caramel apples, a range of different types of ice cream, and chocolate pretzels! you name it-they have it. Click here to check out their website.
