For some great weekend fun near Crested Butte homes, come to the Center for the Arts on Saturday, November 2nd for the Crested Butte Dance Collective’s original production entitled Gypsy Caravan. Gypsy Jazz Social Club will provide accompanying music for the performance. There are two performances, one at 6 p.m. and one at 9 p.m.
You won’t be far from Crested Butte homes, but you’ll be taking an around-the-world journey. Start in Egypt, the origin of Gypsy culture, trek through Arabian sand dunes, and meet the first belly dancers. Stop off in Spain, and watch as flamenco dance is born from the ashes of Gypsy caves. Roam with the Gypsies over the Atlantic Ocean. Follow them through the markets of Latin America, as they enchant with spells, folklore, music, and dance.
A silent auction will precede both shows. Come early and bid for both exotic and local items if you live in Crested Butte, as there is sure to be something to interest you! Funds raised will help finance Crested Butte Dance Collective programming.
Allan Ivy will also be at the Center for the Arts. He’s an excellent local photographer and will be exhibiting a series of photographs taken of modern day Gypsies in Appleby, England, at a huge gathering of Gypsies from England, Ireland, Scotland, and Europe.
