March Community Insider Crested Butte

March Community Insider Crested Butte

I sure enjoyed my winter on the slopes here in Crested Butte. We made some great memories this winter, and I have enjoyed sharing them with all of you. Now spring is right around the corner, but that doesn’t mean it’ll stop snowing. The mountain is still open throughout March so plenty of time left to hit the slopes if that’s what you’re wanting. Hard to believe a whole year has gone by since the restrictions COVID 19 began, and our new normal started. As this year moves forward I hope that some of the events that were cancelled last year will slowly come back. But for now, I look forward to enjoying some of these events I have highlighted in my March Community Insider Crested Butte.

The Grand Traverse

I am so excited this event is back after it was unfortunately cancelled last year due to COVID restrictions. I actually participated in this event years ago, but now I just enjoy watching it. If you want to read more about my experience with the Grand Traverse you can check out this blog post. The Grand Traverse is March 26 through March 28th! Ski racers at midnight will make their way from Crested Butte and head to Aspen. Climbing through Crested Buttes Mountain Resort before racing to Taylor Pass with the finish line on Aspen Mountain. Climbing more than 6,800 feet and traveling more than 40 miles to complete this exciting outdoor adventure.

This is a very intense race and racers must have a partner, and carry mandatory gear. Typically, at the finish line family, friends, and live music will await them. But this year may be different because of the COVID-19 restrictions. It is still possible to register for the event, but precedence is given to those who signed up last year and didn’t get to attend, so you will be waitlisted and there isn’t a guarantee that you’ll be able to participate. Crested Butte Art Walk

Mark your calendars! March 19th is Crested Butte’s Art Walk starting at 5 pm. Join them Downtown Crested Butte to experience beautiful art and have a chance to meet the artist responsible for the fabulous work.

The Last Steep

Wanting to support restaurants this St.Patrick’s Day? Come enjoy a great meal at The Last Steep. One of Crested Buttes favorite restaurants that is named after the owner’s favorite North Face ski run. Their St.Patrick’s Day specials include corned beef and cabbage, Guinness stew, and don’t forget your Guinness and Jameson specials.

Farm To Table Conference

March Community Insider Crested Butte

March 11th through the 13th, join in virtually for the 7th annual Farm to Table conference to learn how to be food independent. This virtual event will teach you how to grow, buy, cook, and store local food. You will hear from guests, speakers and get helpful tips and lifelong tricks you can use to help you in this journey of food preservation. Wanting to give your green thumb a try this spring? They will have a conference focusing on backyard gardening, and soil health. You will receive free access to the Local Producers’ Cookbook, which includes producing guides and recipes using local, seasonal foods. This will come in handy for the farmer’s market this summer!
