Christmas In Crested Butte is a great opportunity to create memories with Family and Friends. Crested Butte is a Special Place and during the Holidays there are many ways to enjoy the beauty of Crested Butte coupled with all the charm of this community.
Whether you hit the slopes at the Crested Butte Mountain Resort (CBMR) and some fresh powder! (we have received a present under our tree of nearly 18″ of powder in the past 48 hours – and it is still snowing!), Nordic ski, snowshoe, go cut down a fresh Christmas tree, or just curl up by the fire and enjoy the company of family and friends, this is a great time of the year.
It can be tough to get the family together (especially with teenagers!). We have been blessed to enjoy Crested Butte at Christmas for many years. We were second homeowners here in Crested Butte for ten years prior to moving to Crested Butte full time in 2009. The family time together building our own sledding run, snowshoeing out and cutting our own Christmas tree, skiing together, or watching the torchlight parade down the mountain are great examples of memories we have enjoyed as a family together.
Crested Butte is a place that people enjoy the recreational opportunities to be outside- and if you couple that with dressing up and having a party then you can see why the annual Santa Ski and Pub Crawl has become an instant hit! This year the headlines read: Crested Butte Breaks World Record With Skiing Santas – there were 827 Santas skiing at one time!

People often ask me “what makes Crested Butte special?” It is hard to put into words, but Christmas in Crested Butte is part of the charm of Crested Butte for visitors, locals and second homeowners. There are plenty of luxury homes and high-end ski-in / ski-out condos at the base area, but unlike some of the other ski resort towns in Colorado that have their glitsy roots in gold and silver mining – Crested Butte was as a coal mining town. In many ways the character and attitude of the early ranchers and miners has transcended time. In Crested Butte the skiing is great, the scenery is awesome, the recreational activities in the Gunnison Valley are endless, and the people are warm, friendly and real. Come to Crested Butte to unwind, relax and enjoy family and friends.
