Skiing Santas Invade Crested Butte
There were hundreds and hundreds of Santa’s Helpers at the Crested Butte Ski Area today (December 14, 2013). The first annual Crested Butte Santa Ski Crawl was an attempt to set the record for the most skiing Santas ever! And in classic Crested Butte fashion – there was also a pub-crawl. This first year event is sure to grow as a not-to-miss Crested Butte Event with its combination of skiing, costumes and fun.
The Group Santa Ski is for all ages and every type of snow sport enthusiast – Snowboarders, Skiers, Snow-Bladers, everyone skied down from Uley’s Cabin (and Ice Bar) at 3:30pm to the Base Area! It was free, you just needed a Santa suit to get in the spirit!
The Santa Pub Crawl is the adult side of the event, Adult Santas going bar to bar in one epic holiday adventure! A Santa suit and 5 FREE drinks, all for only $25!

People often ask me “what makes Crested Butte special?” It is hard to put into words, but this Santa Ski Crawl event is “it”. It is part of the charm of Crested Butte for visitors, locals and second homeowners. There are plenty of luxury homes and high-end ski-in / ski-out condos at the base area, but unlike some of the other ski resort towns in Colorado that have their glitsy roots in gold and silver mining – Crested Butte was as a coal mining town. In many ways the character and attitude of the early ranchers and miners has transcended time. In Crested Butte the skiing is great, the scenery is awesome, the recreational activities in the Gunnison Valley are endless, and the people are warm, friendly and real. Come to Crested Butte, mix and mingle, relax and enjoy all there is to offer. Crested Butte: “the last great Colorado ski town” – this is one reason why.
