Spring Break Crested Butte Real Estate Mayhem
There are many moving parts in the Crested Butte Real Estate business, but perhaps none more challenging than the Spring Break Crested Butte Real Estate Mayhem.
Spring Break in Crested Butte
A peak time for visitors in Crested Butte is the Spring Break season. We are blessed with lots of excited visitors who come with their families primarily for the great alpine skiing at Crested Butte Mountain Resort.
Of course, there is the fun of Après–ski (French: after skiing) is a term for entertainment, nightlife or social events that occur specifically at ski resorts. These add to the enjoyment of resort-goers and provide something to do besides skiing and snowboarding.
And these visitors will enjoy all the charm of Crested Butte – the shopping and the restaurants, as well as the beauty of the surrounding snow filled mountains!
The Mayhem Part
Because we have so many visitors here in Crested Butte during the Spring Break season most homes are filled with owners, guests, or renters.
…and especially this year as the TEXAS and OKLAHOMA Spring Breaks fall on the same week (March 13 – 17)
So, trying to schedule a showing can be quite a balancing act…
Many property management companies who cater to the renter (their client) DO NOT want to allow a disruptive showing of the home. This can be frustrating.
Many owners who rent via VRBO or have friends who are using their home, and they may have trouble contacting the renters (who of course could be out skiing, or busy with their family…).
My Recommendation to Crested Butte Sellers
My recommendation to Sellers is always be sure to have an understanding and language in the Rental Agreement with the property management company, and the Renters, that the home may be shown, and “best efforts” will be to provide a 24-Hour notice.
The result is many calls, texts, emails… and sometimes little or with no response.
“Can We See some Crested Butte Homes For Sale tomorrow morning before we leave?”
This may sound funny, but it is very common… The family that is here for 5 days has a great time – and after their last day of skiing they have turned in their rental skis and sitting in the hot tub or having an adult beverage… and they think “this Crested Butte is really special… I could see us having a place here… I wonder what a home costs…?”
Then they may pick up the Crested Butte News or any of the myriad of local publications, or go on-line and search for Crested Butte Real Estate… then my phone rings and they ask:
“Can we see some Crested Butte Homes for sale tomorrow morning before we leave?”
I look at my watch – it is 5:30pm. I ask them “tomorrow morning?”
They say: “Yes, you see we fly out at 2:00pm, we need to be wheels-up here in Mt. CB by 11:30am – so we have all morning to do NOTHING and thought it would be great to see 5-6 homes in the morning… okay?”
You get the point…
Good News / Bad News
Of course, this is good news / bad news… Good news that they have had a wonderful time here in Crested Butte and want to explore the Crested Butte real estate market and look at some homes. Bad news that there is very little time to figure out what their criteria is, what Crested Butte Homes are Listed for Sale that may be available for them to see on such short notice…
