The 14th Annual Crested Butte Summit Hike and Mountain Half Marathon (July 27th)

shutterstock_145863446Living Journeys annual hike to the top of Mt. Crested Butte (12,162 feet), is fundraiser to raise money to provide education, support and awareness to those living with cancer. The Crested Butte Summit Hike is a fund raising event to help individuals living with cancer and their loved ones. Money raised from the hike assists recipients in paying medical bills and alleviates the stress of daily living expenses during their cancer treatments. The Summit Hike is sponsored by Living Journeys, a non-profit foundation. In 2012, Living Journeys contributed about $35,000 in financial assistance and counseling services to Gunnison County residents living with cancer.

The summit of Mt. Crested Butte is accessible to a variety of fitness levels and ages. Participants have the option of modifying the hike by riding the chair lift, which covers 2000 vertical feet in 15 minutes, or hiking the challenging 11.5 miles (round trip). From the top of the chair lift, participants hike a high alpine trail to the peak (two miles round trip, 762 vertical feet). Everyone is encouraged to have fun, take their time, and honor those whose lives have been touched by cancer.

Crested Butte Mountain Half Marathon

The Living Journeys Summit Hike also includes a timed Half Marathon. The approximately 13 mile race will begin at the base area promptly at 8 a.m. This challenging course will start with a brief section of service road then will quickly move onto singletrack for about 4.5 miles. As you climb to the top of the Silver Queen lift, the trail will once again move onto service road for the two miles of switchbacks and then back onto rolling cross country single track for the last six miles of the race with a dramatic finish at the base area.

The field is limited to 100 runners. Prizes will be awarded to top male and female finishers, top master male and female as well as oldest and youngest finishers. Aid stations will also be available. All runners get a Living Journeys shirt and other incentive prizes. Please help us raise money by collecting pledges!

How to Participate in Run or Hike

The registration fee for each participant is $50.00 plus processing fee (kids 12 and under $10). In addition, each participant is encouraged to raise pledges. Pledges raised by hikers are their primary source of funds, therefore they encourage every participant to raise at least $100 in pledges to be turned in on the day of the event.
