Brought to the people by the Gunnison Trails and presented by the Ergon and SRAM, the 6th Annual Original Growler Mountain Bike Race is the primary fundraiser for the Gunnison Trails (a non-profit organization in Colorado). The organization is dedicated to expanding and maintaining the single track experience at the Gunnison area. They are also working toward building the Gunnison to Crested Butte trail. All the proceeds gained from the event will benefit the said organization.
What’s New for 2013?
The registration already opened last December 01, 2012. With about two days dedicated to racing and lots of capacity, there is no need to rush the registration. For this year, refunds will no longer be allowed. The Growler is all about raising money for the trails, so before signing up for registration, be sure that you are comfortable in paying the entry fee, whether or not you will make it to the event. The entry fee will be 100% tax deductible.
How to Register
An online registration is available at bikereg.com. But as of the moment, it is already sold out. Each day of racing is capped at 350 riders. The entry fee for this year’s event will be $75 for the Half-Growler, and $95 for the Full-Growler. Expect to pay a small fee for the people at bikereg.com.
The Racer Check-in
The racer check-in will be on May 24, 2013, Friday, from 3:00 pm to 9:00 pm. The venue is at the IOOF Park, located on the northeast corner of Main and Virginia, downtown Gunnison. The check-in is intended for both the half and full-Growler riders. All the riders must be present to sign the waiver, and there will be no race day check-in. There will also be a check-in on May 25, 2013, Saturday. The venue is still at the IOOF Park. The Original Growler event is a BYOB Race, which means Bring your Own Bag. The organizers are trying to prevent clutter by not giving out any disposable or reusable bags that people don’t need. It is advised that you bring your own, preferably filled with food for the Original Growler Food Drive.
Half and Full Growler
On Saturday, May 25, 2013, this day is dedicated for the Half-Growler. It starts at 9:00 in the morning, with a 32-mile, epic, single-lap race. The field limit is 350 riders. The entry fee at $75 will include a ton of single-track, access to aid stations, a shirt, admission to the post-race party in downtown Gunnison with meals and beverages. And on Sunday, May 26, 2013, is the Full-Growler. This is a 64-mile race, with two laps. It starts at 7 in the morning, with the same field limit of 350 riders. The entry fee is at $95, which includes double a ton of single-track, a shirt, access to aid stations, and admission to the post-race party with meals and beverages.
