The Center for the Arts Crested Butte is proud to present the 12th annual Tour de Forks, a popular fundraiser event that is brought to you by the Center pARTners volunteer efforts.
There are 15 Tour de Forks events that take place over the summer, as foodies and those who are fans of architecture visit several private local homes and taste the culinary creations of noted chefs. For instance, one evening may include meet and greet with great food and a chance to meet Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Richie Furay. The next day, you may attend an elegant brunch rubbing elbows with the upper echelons of Wildcat at Trapper’s Crossing looking down at the Slate River. Tour de Forks is also filled with adventure, as you may get the chance to hike through the preserved North Pole Basin with a RMBL scientist who can expertly explain the types of flowers you’ll see, along with land preservation for high altitudes and the intricacies of water ecology.
Chefs that have been trained all over the world will present you with an exotic variation of fine cuisines from Italian to French to Spanish. Your meals may take on a traditional Sicilian characteristic, or you’ll indulge in a myriad of courses and enjoy boutique wines as a delicious finishing touch to your meal.
Every year, the Center for the Arts offers 120 performances to more than 30,000 individuals. The diverse shows engage those who live in or are visiting Crested Butte in culturally enlightening events like the Cleo Parker Robinson Dance Troupe, Tim O’Brien concerts, award-winning acting troupes, independent films. Alpenglow, a free outdoor concert series, is also a part of Tour de Forks, and welcomes thousands of music lovers each summer.
The Center for the Arts Crested Butte continues to maintain the mission of encouraging creativity and innovation by way of educational advancement. Hundreds of children of all ages have been able to express their artistic genius through the Aerial Dance Workshop in partnership with the Crested Butte Dance Collective. Or, members of the community can participate in the Outdoor Photography Workshop with the Center’s Art Studio. Local and regional artists can showcase their work in the Piper Gallery; art enthusiasts can visit the gallery, particularly during Tour de Forks, to take in new artwork while enjoying the best cuisine the city has to offer.
The Center provides a cost-friendly venue for events that are sponsored by the community, which further broadens the horizons of local artists by way of the talents of the Cressted Butte Mountain Theatre, Crested Butte Avalance Center, Crested Butte Music Festival, Crested Butte Dance Collective, Crested Butte School of Dance, Crested Butte Search Collective, and a number of other community organizations.
None of the worthwhile community programs that the Crested Butte arts community enjoys would be possible without Tour de Forks. The Arts Center is required to raise more than half of its budget through donations and fundraising events, and Tour de Forks is the main source of financial contribution.
Residents and business owners in Crested Butte enthusiastically come together to make Tour de Forks a success each year. Homeowners will often open their homes to host networking events and formal meals. Local business donate funds and supplies to make Tour de Forks a success. Community volunteers serve food, clean up and organize events. Quality chefs donate their time to provide decadent meals free of charge.
