Video Interview Owner Brown Lab Pub and Bakery Crested Butte

I had the opportunity to Interview Brown Lab Pub and Bakery Owner Steve Mikeska in Crested Butte at the base area of the Crested Butte Ski Area. This is just one more reason people say “Crested Butte is the last great ski town in Colorado”.  Steve and the Brown Lab Pub & Bakery have been in business in Crested Butte for 20 years because he offers a family friendly establishment that provides fresh baked goods made from scratch all day at a reasonable price.  In the morning there are pastries and breakfast burritos, hearty food at lunch, and adult libations and pizza for Après-ski in the afternoons.

The Brown Lab Pub and Bakery is a great combination of warm friendly service, great food and a fun place to hang-out at the base of Crested Butte Ski area with family or friends.  In addition to the tables inside, on  a sunny day you will find the deck filled with skiers taking a break, and soaking up the afternoon rays.  I have frequented the Brown Lab Pub & Bakery many times in the morning with my daughters before school – the breakfast burritos, or warm turkey & cheese pocket sandwiches are a hit.  I have also enjoyed meeting a group of friends here at the end of the day, and for participants in the Boys Ski Trip that don’t make it back to the house, they can be found here after the Ice Bar has closed for the day.  Like many places in Crested Butte, if there is an empty chair or two at a table it is customary to offer the folks standing to grab a seat and join in on discussing the days adventure in the mountains.

Enjoy a smoke-free Après-ski spot inside or out on their deck with daily drink specials. Located slopeside at Crested Butte Mountain Resort (as you are skiing down to the Red Lady Lift – look skier’s Right, up the stairs). Stop by for great drink specials and inspiring views.

People often ask me “what makes Crested Butte special?”  It is hard to put into words, but this is part of the charm of Crested Butte for visitors, locals and second homeowners.  There are plenty of luxury homes and high-end ski-in / ski-out condos at the base area, but unlike some of the other ski resort towns in Colorado that have their glitsy roots in gold and silver mining – Crested Butte was as a coal mining town.  In many ways the character and attitude of the early ranchers and miners has transcended time.  In Crested Butte the skiing is great, the scenery is awesome, the recreational activities in the Gunnison Valley are endless, and the people are warm, friendly and real.  Come into a place like the Brown Lab Pub & Bakery and sit for a while, relax and enjoy.
