Chris Kopf: “Hey, it’s Chris Kopf, and we’re in downtown Crested Butte. We’re at Bramble and Bloom. I’m here with Sarah Hausdoerffer and Stephanie Fischer. And we’re talking about flowers today, Sarah and Stephanie. Tell me about Bramble and Bloom. How’d you get started in this business?”
Sarah Hausdoerffer: “It’s happened what, four years ago I was painting and I kind of was getting burned out with the painting medium and it was hurting my neck. So anyway, I just started thinking, well, what kind of medium could I do – and still do art? And so I was like, oh, flowers actually could be an art form. And so I looked into it, went to school in Portland – and then bought this place.”
Chris Kopf: “Wow. Awesome! So Stephanie, how did you get involved?”
Stephanie Fischer: “My sister recruited me from being a kindergarten teacher for almost 20 years now. And then I started coming into here in the summers and loved it so much. I went halftime there and halftime here now.”
Chris Kopf: “Awesome. I love it. Sisters, what an awesome partnership. You are located right here on Elk Avenue? And we’re right across from Teocalli Tamale. Tell us about your retail shop you have here?”
Sarah Hausdoerffer: “Yeah, so we have plants here. We have a lot of cool dried arrangements and then we have flowers. So if you want to come get, grab and go flowers, it’s easy. We usually have them in this little cooler here. You can just walk in.”
Chris Kopf: “I Got some the other day.”
Sarah Hausdoerffer: “Yeah, you did! Yes. And it was, you know, anywhere from $20 to a $100. Ready to go!”
Chris Kopf: “Grab and go. Alright. And Stephanie, you were clipping some flowers earlier?”
Stephanie Fischer: “Yes. Making a bouquet. That will be a grab and go in the cooler.
Chris Kopf: “Very good. Yeah. Very cool. And you do custom flowers? If I wanted to do a bouquet for my wife or Valentine’s Day coming up or her birthday or anniversary or any other special occasion, you do that?”
Sarah Hausdoerffer: “Yes, and so those are more like our artistic form. And they are typically bigger arrangements. They range usually from $100 to $200 and they come with more unique flowers and some really cool colors and combinations!”
Chris Kopf: “Well, very good. You don’t have just the run of the mill flowers here. You have some pretty high end cool flowers, right?”
Sarah Hausdoerffer: “Yes. Mostly high end. Yeah. Like these… They are coming from all over the world. And then we also try to do local flowers. So it depends on, the time of year, but we’re doing flowers from all over, sometimes local flowers if we can.”
Chris Kopf: “I have two more daughters that could get married. Do you do weddings?”
Sarah Hausdoerffer: “We do so many weddings. <laugh>. And we love to do that. Yes, we do a lot of larger scale weddings. We do a ton here in Crested Butte. We’re also now traveling!”
Chris Kopf: “You’re traveling? Where do you travel to?”
Sarah Hausdoerffer: “Let’s see, we have a wedding in Maine, in Texas. Yeah… And we’re doing Vermont. We have one in North Carolina. So we’ll go really anywhere. I am really excited to start doing that more. And every single wedding we do – we take it as an art form. Yes. Creativity is #1 thing here.”
Chris Kopf: “Is there anything else you want people to know about Bramble and Bloom – about your shop and your services?”
Sarah Hausdoerffer: “Thank you. Yes, I think a lot of people don’t know that we have plants and we have these pots, and so you can pick your plant and your pot – and we’ll plant it for you. We have a little potting station over there – and a lot of people don’t realize that. And then we have a bunch of really cool, unique gifts. I would say if you come here you’re going to get a very personal experience and you’re going to have a good connection with us.”
