Crested Butte Film Festival Another Huge Success
The Crested Butte Film Festival is a great event. As I have said many times, if you have not attended, you need to put this event on your calendar. This year the Crested Butte Film Festival Another Huge Success.
Crested Butte Film Festival 2017 Dates
The Crested Butte Film Festival dates for 2017 are September 28 – October 1. Book it! Not only is the event awesome, but the weather and beautiful autumn colors are spectacular.
Below is the follow-up letter from Jen & Michael Brody Executive Directors of the Crested Butte Film Festival, and the entire Crested Butte Film Festival Team:
The sixth annual Crested Butte Film Festival has officially wrapped. This has been our most exciting and well-attended festival yet, and we could not have achieved any of this without your incredible contributions and participation. Thank you!
One hundred films were screened, including two free film programs for kids, and all our events were enthusiastically received (see photos below). In collaboration with local lodging companies, 80 visiting filmmakers and representatives were housed, all of whom fell absolutely in love with Crested Butte.
One of the highlights for us were the inspiring discussions that ensued from this shared experience of watching films together. The connection we feel from being transported into other worlds and being able to share that experience with others continues to be valuable and treasured. Post-festival, we have received many sincere messages that speak to the films shown, the experiences had, and the new friendships forged. Here’s a snippet from one such message, from a visiting filmmaker couple (now new friends):
“Before we get too far down the road, we wanted to let you know just how impressed we were with the Festival last week. The Festival was everything we could’ve possibly hoped it would be: welcoming, stimulating, fun, and crammed chock full of interesting people. You have somehow managed to put together a festival centered on a magical Main Street, with appreciative audiences and enthusiastic volunteers, where the longest walk between venues is 10 minutes.”
We’re grateful to have shared these stories with you and will be posting photos from the festival and our award-winning films on our Facebook page and website so be on the lookout. If you have any photos to share, we welcome them.
You’re invited to be a part of the Crested Butte Film Festival again next fall, September 28 – October 1, 2017. Right now, we’re taking a short, restorative break in New Mexico and will be back to planning and preparing next week for the 2017 edition.
We work year-round to make improvements to the festival-going experience. If you have suggestions or feedback for us, please email them at any time. We will take them to heart as it better helps us understand your experience and how we can make it even better.
Thank you once again for being a part of the 2016 Crested Butte Film Festival and for making it the best one yet!
All our best,
Jen & Michael

What Makes Crested Butte Special
People often ask me “what makes Crested Butte special?” It is hard to put into words, and there are lots of festivals and events – but the Crested Butte Film Festival is part of the charm of Crested Butte for visitors, locals and second homeowners.
There are plenty of luxury homes and high-end ski-in / ski-out condos at the base area, but unlike some of the other ski resort towns in Colorado that have their glitzy roots in gold and silver mining – Crested Butte was as a coal mining town. In many ways the character and attitude of the early ranchers and miners has transcended time. In Crested Butte the skiing is great, the scenery is awesome, the recreational activities in the Gunnison Valley are endless, and the people are warm, friendly and real. Come to Crested Butte to unwind, relax and enjoy family and friends. And come at the end of September every year and enjoy over 100 films a the Crested Butte Film Festival.
