Crested Butte is the mountain biking center of Colorado! Trails are everywhere: the trail to town from the mountain; the “rec path trail”; there are great Mt. Crested Butte lift served downhill trails you ride down – take the Red Lady lift up. There are also great places to rent bikes such as CBMR or Peak Sports, located right at the base.
There are many great mountain biking trails in CB and Mt. CB area. Good advice before you head out: go to the Crested Butte Mountain Bike Association website to see the trails and conditions, because an easy hiking trail is completely different from a bike trail (i.e. a small root or branch is no big deal when you are hiking but can be really tough on a bike!).
Hiking trails of unearthly beauty are everywhere in Crested Butte. There are easy trails like the Lower Loop, sturdier trails like the Upper Loop, and amazingly difficult trails. Once again, it’s a good idea to get a book with maps and take it with you! Here is a link to a great hiking book on Amazon. It’s called “65 Scenic Day Hikes”.
The Base Area – Lots of Activities
