New Crested Butte Restaurants Two Twelve and Bruhaus
Super exciting to have two brand new restaurants in downtown Crested Butte.
As most people are aware there was a transition of commercial real estate in downtown Crested Butte. We lost some great restaurants – but added one new restaurant in late 2023, and two more in the past few weeks. Jeff Hermanson and Kyleena Falzone partnered on The Hideout which replaced The Last Steep… and I am super excited we have recently seen the opening of two twelve and Bruhaus.
Francene and I have had opportunity to dine multiple times at both two twelve and Bruhaus. Both are great additions to the downtown Crested Butte restaurant scene.
“I am not vegan, vegetarian, pescatarian, flexitarian, or macrobiotic, and I am not gluten-free.
My wife Francene says that I may be lactose intolerant – but that is just normal at this altitude 😊”
Disclaimer: I am in no way a food critic, or a foodie. I am not vegan, vegetarian, pescatarian, flexitarian, or macrobiotic, and I am not gluten-free. My wife Francene says that I may be lactose intolerant – but that is just normal at this altitude.
I am a simple man – I tend to be a meat and potatoes guy, but I’ll give you my thoughts on both new restaurants, and I encourage you to visit yourself.
two twelve
High quality fine dining experience. It is certainly pricey $$$, but I give it two thumbs up. 👍 👍

two twelve is a great partnership between Jeff Hermanson and Kyleena Falzone. Jeff got to start here in 1976 with his first restaurant. He went on to bigger and better things in downtown Denver where he developed the Larimer Square, area as well as restoration of Denver Union Station.
We all know that Kyleena has done very well with the Secret Stash Pizza and Bonez. Kyleena has been a big supporter of the community and is known for being a very good restaurant owner/operator. She is a very hard worker – and focuses on taking care of customers and her staff to provide high quality food, service and experience
two twelve is a high-end restaurant with wood fire cooking and some very unique food items. They have a full service bar and wine by the glass. Located at 212 Elk Avenue in downtown Crested Butte. Like most fine dining restaurants, you order the entrée and sides separately. You can think of it as a three course meal – there are Starters, Entrées and vegetables, and a recently added Dessert menu.
From their website:
“A fresh take on live-fire cooking…
Our seasonal menus reflect intention to fresh ingredients and play with the touch of fire. From whole roasted chicken to whole rack of elk, we’re balancing the flavor development that live fire creates. With a focus on the smaller producers, we strive to source our ingredients and products from those who honor the earth and our health.”
two twelve Experience
Walking into two twelve you are greeted by the smiling hostess. As you look around you appreciate the intimate setting of the seating on the main level – there are cozy booths, you look past the seating, and you have a visual sightline to the open flame cooking area, the long bar with casual conversation – the background music is playing… a very nice setting. upstairs has a very open light modern feel with high ceiling and quality lighting. The stacks of wood downstairs and up are part of the visual backdrop reminding you that your meal is to be cooked with “live fire”.
Since dining there there three times, I’ve tasted many things on the menu. I’ve enjoyed the MJ Pickett Pork Chop, the Fire Roasted Chicken, and the Reminisce Black Angus Fillet. Next time I will get the Wapiti Elk Rack because it looks awesome – a big chunk of meat with the bones sticking out, and I love elk.
The starters and the vegetables have been great. I’m kind of partial to mushrooms and there’s a Pacific Northwest Wild Forage Mushroom entrée that we have gotten as an appetizer or to accompany our entrées – and that’s probably my favorite.
Francene and I recently celebrated our 33 wedding anniversary at two twelve and so we saved room for dessert. I would’ve selected the Cherry and Apple Crumble with vanilla ice cream, but Francene got to choose – and we shared the Double Chocolate Torte and got scoop of vanilla ice cream with that.
I love the Interior decor the ambience and the quality of service is very high. As I look around the restaurant, there are a lot of staff working hard to provide quality service. I notice they are also smiling and seem to really enjoy being a part of this great new restaurant.

Bruhaus Mountain Tavern

We’ve been calling it “Brohaus” (pronounced “Bro-House”) because it is a great gathering spot and every time we’ve gone there we’ve seen so many people that we know, and we have said: “hey bro, hey bro, good to see you here bro…, hence “Brohaus”.
A quality fun dining or drinking experience. It is reasonably priced $$, I give it two thumbs up. 👍 👍
The Brick Oven was a favorite pizza restaurant – but revered more for the outdoor patio on a sunny day. Mark Walter has purchased lots of commercial real estate in the Gunnison valley – and bought the former Brick Oven real estate as well (also owns Elk Avenue Prime, Wooden Nickel, Princess Wine Bar and next door Liquor Store, also Forest Queen building that housed Coal Creek Grill, and The Almont Resort and some other land holdings).
Some people have commented: “hey, Crested Butte is selling out to ‘the man’…” I typically respond – “How do you like the Public House?” The reply immediately – “yes, it is awesome!” I remind them that not likely a local mom/pop owner would have deep enough pockets to fund the renovations that took place on that building for 2+ years… it just does not pencil out.
Francene and I have also been to Bruhaus four times, and the second time we saw local architect Andrew Hadley. Andrew Hadley has done high quality design work for a number of my real estate clients – and he designed the Bruhaus and new expansion. The new structure that took up some of the outdoor seating is a beautiful timber frame glass structure that will be especially desirable in the winter. Andrew said, the plans call for expansion of the outdoor seating toward the CB Angler building – the result will be more outdoor seating than the Brick Oven had previously.
There were some people questioning a brewhouse/beer hall with German food and if that was a good fit in Crested Butte?
They have like 38 different beers on tap and a ton of can and bottle beer choices, plus a bar inside and the patio bar outside – so lots of alcohol to options.
The tagline is “Crested Butte’s premier beer hall” – and since Francene and I don’t drink alcohol anymore I can’t really comment on that, but everyone drinking seemed very happy.
Currently Bruhaus is open for dinner, but they will be expanding their hours to include lunch and late night and will soon be open from 11:00am – 11:00pm.
Bruhaus Experience
The variety of food on the menu is great. Literally something for everyone. All the entrées are between $25 and $40 and there’s lots of other choices as well – burgers, chicken sandwiches, and a great selection of appetizers, flatbreads, salads, and desserts…
I loved the Elk Meatloaf, the Peri Peri Chicken Breast, and the Bruhaus Double Cheeseburger, and Steak Frites – all great. Francene and I took a client of mine, and their two boys devoured the Nachos and large Bavarian Soft Pretzel before eating the Brisket Mac N Cheese and OG Pepperoni Flatbread.
You could be a meat eater or a vegan and be very happy with the selections and the quality of food. I think the Bruhaus will crush it.
