Video Interview Curtis Higgins Elk Avenue Prime Crested Butte – I had the opportunity to interview Elk Avenue Prime owner, Curtis Higgins in historic downtown Crested Butte where this top-notch restaurant resides. Elk Avenue Prime is a new restaurant in town having replaced the well-known steakhouse, Maxwells. Although Elk Avenue Prime is in the same building that was previously known as the Maxwells Steakhouse, one step inside and you will find a completely different atmosphere than that of Maxwells with many revisions and a new menu.
Elk Avenue Prime is a great combination of warm friendly service, excellent food, and a great atmosphere for families, friends or a date night with a spouse or significant other. This pristine restaurant is known for their steak and elk selection as well as their vast array of import and domestic beers and fine wines, which happens to be the largest wine selection in the valley. You can enjoy any of their drinks from their outdoor patio or cozy up next to their fireplace, great after a long day of skiing. If you are looking for a nice restaurant to enjoy fresh Colorado meat from elk to trout, then Elk Avenue Prime is the place to go where they provide excellent service and a menu that is constantly being updated.
With Curtis’s dedication and knowledge in the restaurant business, a quality staff, and fresh fish and prime steaks, Elk Avenue Prime has become unstoppable with dishes that will have you coming back for more. Their spacious restaurant is also a great place for large dinner parties, where you can even rent out the backroom if necessary.
Wedding Receptions at Elk Avenue Prime – there have been many fabulous wedding receptions held at Elk Avenue Prime, and this one of the owners favorite uses of their restaurant.

People often ask me “what makes Crested Butte special?” It is hard to put into words, but Elk Avenue Prime is part of the charm of Crested Butte, Colorado for visitors, locals and second homeowners. There are plenty of luxury homes and high-end ski-in / ski-out condos at the base area, but unlike some of the other ski resort towns in Colorado that have their glitsy roots in gold and silver mining – Crested Butte was as a coal mining town. In many ways the character and attitude of the early ranchers and miners has transcended time. In Crested Butte the skiing is great, the scenery is awesome, the recreational activities in the Gunnison Valley are endless, and the people are warm, friendly and real. Come into a place like Elk Avenue Prime for a great meal, an appetizer and drinks in the bar area, or to sit for a while, relax and enjoy
