What to Know About Ski-in Ski-out Crested Butte Homes

What to Know About Ski-in Ski-out Crested Butte Homes – Oh, the luxury of saying: “I’m going to make a couple more runs and then I’ll meet you guys at the house”, or “You go on ahead, I have a few things at the house I have to do, and then I’ll meet you at the base area around 10:00 am”. Everyone has different skiing motivations. A “Powder Day” can be such a game-changer. Not all skiers are the same. What I mean is that some like to sleep in. Then they’ll ask where the groomed runs are. Or some like to go out early and be on the first chair and get first tracks. It really just depends. Especially with a group. Here is what to know about ski-in ski-out Crested Butte homes.

Advantages of About Ski-in Ski-out Crested Butte Homes

You will have people staying in your Crested Butte home with different skiing abilities and motivations, as well as different schedules at times. This is where “Ski-in/out” and “skier access” gives you and your guests flexibility.  I have hosted “Boys Ski Trips” for many years and the logistics of skier access is a plus as some guys may have a conference call, or decide they want to get back to the house and soak in the hot tub with a cold beer…

Kids / Grandkids – the logistics of getting kids ready to go ski can be daunting… we have three daughters. My father-in-law Frank would call our girls “the wildcats” and it was certainly a challenge to get them all dressed and ready to go ski… We laugh about it now, but having skier access was beneficial – especially when we we would encourage them to “race back to the house!”

For buyers, I recommend triple checking the skiing access. Check what it’s really going to be like. A long walk? Short walk? Uphill? Is it a ski back to the house through the trees? Always get clarity on what it’s actually like. The closer the home or condo is to the slopes, the more the luxury of skier access and the more expensive the real estate. Crested Butte offers quite a few ski-in ski-out and skier access homes.

Top Subdivisions in Mt. Crested Butte With Ski-in/Out and Skier Access

Prospect – This subdivision is a high-end area due to the quality of the development, the larger homesites, and the commanding views up and down the East River Valley and the surrounding mountains. The Prospect development was designed around skier access. The Prospect lift runs right through the development and offers many ski-ways under the road.

Timberland – This subdivision provides great skier access and sits at the top of Anthracite Drive with homes along the fence line and adjacent to the Homeowners Run. The subdivision plat map specifically calls out a “skier easement” on each lot. Most homes require only a short walk, and all provide the ability to ski back to the house (at least close to it).

Elk Run – Most homes in this subdivision have easy access and a ski or level walk to access Homeowners Run off Anthracite Drive. The subdivision here was actually developed before the Crested Butte Ski Area had put in the Gold Link Lift and Homeowners Run.

Gold Link – Adjacent to the Homeowners Run with access to the Gold Link lift, there are a few homes in the Gold Link Subdivision that are literally on the fence line within steps of the groomed runs, and many within a very short walking distance. Short term rental restrictions (2 weeks per month).

The Summit – Located on the front of the Crested Butte Mountain with awesome 360 degree views from most homes and homesites. The Summit has access to and from the Silver Queen lift. You can also ski down to the West Wall and Peachtree Lifts. Depending on where your home sits in this development will affect the effort required to walk to put your skis on and ski down to the lifts.

Condos And Townhomes With Skier Access

Many Crested Butte condos and townhomes at the base area offer excellent skier access as well. Some even offer ski-in ski-out! The WestWall Lodge offers a namesake lift that services these condos as well as concierge ski valet to compliment the luxury condo experience. Some condos and townhomes with ski-in/out include Columbine, Crested Mountain, Silver Ridge, Gateway, Emmons, Whetstone, Axtel, and Paradise. The Lodge at Mountaineer Square and the Grand Lodge are in the base area – generally considered ski-in / ski-out as they are just steps away!

Not Many Homes have Skier Access

There are only a small percentage of Crested Butte homes that have skier access… or if you don’t want a home in Mt. Crested Butte, but you enjoy skiing – there are options for you too!

There are many lockers and club memberships at the base area. You can keep your gear and skis at your locker, which is great! I like to recommend The Club at Crested Butte – Ski Club or “Slopeside Club”. This really is a great facility at the base area and membership comes with a parking pass, a locker, valet ski service, very nice food service, a bar and common area lounges. There is also a conference room – and this can be beneficial for squeezing in that conference call or off-site meeting.

This makes for an ease of skier access, as well as the convenience free Mountain Express bus service between Mt. Crested Butte and town.
