Exciting Announcements Mt. Crested Butte Performing Arts Center (MCBPAC)
I attended the Mt. Crested Butte Performing Arts Center event held July 1 on the top of the new parking garage overlooking the site of the proposed facility. The official name of the future facility is the Biery-Witt Center at Mt. Crested Butte.
MCBPAC Announcements
The design team has been selected and was introduced. The design team includes: Architects Studio Red Architects of Houston, Texas who will work in collaboration with Crested Butte’s own Sunlit Architecture. Renowned theater planner Robert Long of Theatre Consultants Collaborative and acoustician Bob Mahoney of Robert F. Mahoney Associates. Engineering team members include, Collaborative Engineering Group of Houston for Mechanical Electrical Plumbing, Monroe and Newell Engineers of Avon, Colorado for structural, and SGM of Gunnison for Civil Engineering.
A key change in the Design was unveiled. The entire building was turned around 180 degrees – and a giant glass window will allow for a spectacular view of Mt. Crested Butte from inside the facility.
Performance seating for 500. There will be 150 seats in the balcony and 350 on the main floor. 500 seats is a magic number in the conference and group-booking world – this facility will put Crested Butte on the list of future destinations for this business.
The facility will be multi-functional. There will be world-class acoustics for the performing arts – and the stage will accommodate a full orchestra, theatrical and dance performances. The stage will be able to be lowered to floor level and the luxury seating will be “telescoped” away to accommodate many other uses. Some of the uses discussed include corporate events, conferences, weddings and receptions (sit-down seating up to 500), and exhibitions…etc.
Nearly $18 Million Raised so far. Another $300,000 was received today – and the expectation is to raise an additional $2.5M this summer with a total goal of $23.5M. One of the speakers said: “It is no longer “if” we will build a new facility – it is now “what” we will build”.
“The Center will be the most significant economic game-changer in the Upper Valley in more than 30 years.”
There will be a trickle down effect. What a great benefit this will be for Crested Butte and the entire area. Having come from the corporate world of technology sales and sales management I see a great opportunity for corporate retreats, executive off-site meetings, and incentive travel. These users will bring corporate dollars from outside our valley and fill our local restaurants and shops, chairs on lifts in winter and summer, rafts on the Taylor river, guided fly fishing, snowmobile tours, horseback riding, dogsled tours… and yes many who come here will see Crested Butte as a wonderful place to buy or build a second home.
I hope you will join me and support The Mt. Crested Butte Performing Arts Center (MCBPAC).
